What an extremely pleasant camping to stay! We spent a week here with our kids (8-9 years). The camping is small enough (about 40 pitches) that the kids can basically go their own way the whole day. The majority of guests are also families, so loads of other kids to play with (most are Dutch). As mentioned in other posts: the owners are truly heartwarmingly friendly. At lot of vacationers are regulars and I think the extreme friendliness of the owners is the main reason people keep coming back I think. The pitches are wide and offer more than enough privacy. We rented a tent (rent-a-tent) which also really nice. The grounds, with the chateau and views are phenomenal. The sanitation looks like it’s been redone in the past 5 years and is in good shape. More than enough showers (didn’t have to wait a single time), enough warm water and clean. Washer/dryer are also available. The pool is not too big, but sufficient for the number of guests. The camping offers bread service in the morning (good quality) and has a small menu for dining with pizzas, quiche Lorraine and fries. All home made and really tasty! Twice a week they offer roasted chicken, which apparently is a tradition. They can only offer 12 chickens at a time, so reserve a couple of days in advance. We were too late. Perhaps time for a second skewer?? We did get to enjoy a Friday night roasted ham dinner which was fantastic. Not sure if that is a regular thing. Apart from the beautiful environment, there are not many attractions in the nearby area. For us that would be a reason not to stay longer than about 1 week. We did a couple of half-day trips which I can certainly recommend: - Cluny. Pretty town with an old monastery. Has some nice shops - Saturday morning market in Charlieu - Rock of solutre in the pouilly area There is no WiFi except near the chateau, but the 4G reception was excellent at our pitch, so who needs WiFi then. Finally two driving tips: 1. The Camping le chateau de Montrouan has 2 locations on google maps. Be aware that the most widely used (and most frequently reviewed one) is not the real location of the campsite. The campsite is about 2 km east/south-east of that one 2. Google maps will sometimes send you through all kinds of off-road tracks, especially when coming from the north or east. Best to navigate to the nearby town of Gibles. From there, google maps will guide you easily (you can also follow the signs from town)
